Ramadan

In Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim-majority nation, Ramadan transforms the country. The pre-dawn meal (sahur) is eaten at 3 AM, the fast lasts until sunset, and the breaking of the fast (buka puasa) is a communal event. In Jakarta, the Ramadan markets (Pasar Ramadhan) sell kolak (banana and coconut compote), es buah (fruit ice), and dates by the kilogram.
