Festa ta' San Guzepp
The feast of St Joseph is celebrated in the town of Rabat, and the celebration includes a procession, fireworks, and the traditional meal of rabbit stew (fenkata). The rabbit is the national dish of Malta, and the tradition is to cook it in wine, garlic, and tomatoes. The rabbit stew is slow-cooked for hours, and the result is a tender, flavorful dish that is the centerpiece of every Maltese feast. Rabat is adjacent to Mdina, the Silent City, and the feast of St Joseph is also a celebration of Rabat's identity as a separate town from its more famous neighbor. The feast includes the "haxixa" (herbs) market, where the women of Rabat sell fresh herbs and vegetables.
