The day after National Day, and the birthday of Prince Franz Josef II (1906-1989), the longest-reigning Prince of Liechtenstein. Although Franz Josef II has passed away, the current Prince Hans-Adam II (born February 14, 1945) and Hereditary Prince Alois (born June 11, 1968) are celebrated on this day as part of the extended National Day festivities. The celebration is smaller and more private than National Day, but the flags remain flying and the castle remains illuminated. The Liechtenstein royal family : the House of Liechtenstein : is one of the oldest noble families in Europe, with holdings in Austria and the Czech Republic that dwarf the principality itself. The family owns more land outside Liechtenstein than within it, and their art collection (displayed in the Kunstmuseum and the Liechtenstein Museum in Vienna) is one of the finest private collections in the world.
