Youm Leptis Magna

A day celebrating the Roman ruins of Leptis Magna, the best-preserved Roman city anywhere in the world. Leptis Magna was the birthplace of the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus (born in 145 AD), and he lavished his hometown with a forum, a basilica, a theater, baths, and an arch that still stands today. The city is on the Mediterranean coast, 130km east of Tripoli, and the limestone ruins are among the most spectacular in the Mediterranean. The day includes guided tours, lectures on Roman Libya, and the celebration of Libya's pre-Islamic heritage. The amphitheater, the hippodrome, and the Severan Arch are the highlights.
