The anniversary of the proclamation of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in 1975, when the Pathet Lao took power and abolished the monarchy. The day is observed with a military parade, speeches, and the reminder that the revolution was 30 years in the making (1945-1975). The monarchy is gone, the revolution is the founding myth, and the day is both celebration and narrative.
