Youm al-Nus al-Saif

El punto medio del verano kuwaití, cuando el calor es más sofocante y el viento shamal sopla aire caliente desde el norte. El calendario tradicional kuwaití divide el verano en fases: el saray (finales de la primavera), el sayf (verano) y el qaydh (el calor abrasador de julio y agosto). Cada fase tiene sus propias estrellas, sus propios vientos y su propia comida. En el qaydh, la comida tradicional es el harees (gachas de trigo y carne cocinadas durante la noche en un horno tannur), que es lo suficientemente contundente para sostener al cuerpo durante el calor y se sirve con ghee y canela. El pleno verano es también la temporada de los dátiles, cuando las palmeras dan fruto y las calles huelen a dátiles madurando.
