Nationalfeiertag. Ein bedeutender Tag für Burkinas katholische Gemeinschaft. Die Kirchen füllen sich, Chöre singen, und anschließend versammeln sich alle zu einem Mahl, das immer riz gras beinhaltet. Der Glaube ist im Centre-Ouest tief verwurzelt, und die Prozessionen durch Koudougou und Ouaga sind ein Anblick, der einem unvergessen bleibt.
Madagascar is 50% Christian (split between Catholic and Protestant), and the Assumption is observed with church services and processions. The Catholic churches in Antananarivo and the highlands are full, and the singing is in Malagasy. The Assumption is also the beginning of the famadihana season (the turning of the bones), and the coincidence of the Christian holiday and the ancestor ritual is not accidental. The Malagasy practice both Christianity and ancestor worship simultaneously, and the two traditions coexist without contradiction. The Virgin Mary is sometimes identified with the razana (the ancestors), and the Catholic saints are venerated alongside the family ancestors.
