Africa Day

The anniversary of the 1963 founding of the OAU. Schools hold assemblies, students recite African unity poems, and someone inevitably points out that African unity remains an aspiration rather than a reality. The African Union flag flies next to the Zimbabwean one, and for one day the continent feels like it could actually work together : before the news comes on and reminds everyone why it usually doesn't.
