Day of the African Child

Commemorating the 1976 Soweto uprising. Zimbabwean schools hold assemblies where children are told about their rights, and every child's right to education is affirmed in principle while the reality of school fees and exam costs hangs unspoken in the air. The bravest students ask questions. The teachers answer carefully. Everyone goes home knowing the gap between the speech and the situation.
