Día de los Desembarcados

The anniversary of the 1825 landing of the 33 revolutionaries who launched Uruguay's fight for independence from Brazil. They crossed the Rio de la Plata from Argentina in small boats, and by the time the Brazilian authorities noticed, they had already rallied the countryside. Every schoolchild knows their names. Every schoolchild has also forgotten most of them by adulthood.
