The ice cream sandwich was invented in New York City in 1899 by a pushcart vendor who sandwiched ice cream between two graham wafers. The modern version, with the soft chocolate cake outside and the vanilla ice cream inside, is sold from every ice cream truck in America. The ice cream truck song is "The Entertainer" by Scott Joplin, which means that every American between the ages of 5 and 75 has a Pavlovian response to a ragtime melody.
