Shrimp Day

In the Gulf Coast (Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas), shrimp is not a luxury. It is a birthright. Gulf shrimp are sweet, firm, and taste like the ocean. The commercial shrimp you get at a chain restaurant in Ohio is a different animal. In bayou country, they net the shrimp at dawn and boil them by noon. If you have never eaten shrimp that was swimming four hours ago, you have never eaten shrimp.
