Cinco de Mayo
In Mexico, this commemorates the Battle of Puebla in 1862, where Mexican forces defeated the French. In America, it is an excuse to drink margaritas. In Puebla, Mexico, there is a military parade. In American bars, there are margarita specials and sombreros. The irony is that Cinco de Mayo is a bigger holiday in the United States than in Mexico, where Independence Day (September 16th) is the real celebration.
