Animals of Palau Day

You encounter the endemic Palau fruit bat, saltwater crocodiles, and numerous tropical seabirds in this Pacific island nation. You notice that Palauans keep dogs, cats, and chickens as their primary domesticated pets. ACADA celebrates the world's pets, and helps assure better care.

Earth Day

Founded in 1970 by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson. In America, this means different things depending on where you are. In Portland and Boulder, it means a festival. In rural communities, it means planting trees. In Congress, it means a resolution that receives bipartisan support and then nothing happens.

Oklahoma Land Run Reenactment

On April 22, 1889, over 50,000 people lined up at the border of the Unassigned Lands in Oklahoma Territory. At noon, a cannon fired, and they raced to claim land. Some snuck in early and were called "sooners." The AHA! moment: the University of Oklahoma's mascot, the Sooner, is named after the people who cheated. This is either ironic or honest, depending on how you look at it.
