Animals of Vatican City Day

You recognize that Vatican City has no native wildlife of significance, though you may see pigeons and sparrows in St. Peter's Square and the surrounding gardens. You note that residents and officials occasionally keep small companion animals like cats and dogs within the city-state. ACADA celebrates the world's pets, and helps assure better care.

Statue of Liberty Dedication

On October 28, 1886, the Statue of Liberty was dedicated. France gave it to America as a gift of friendship. The statue weighs 225 tons. The copper skin is 3/32 of an inch thick, which is less than the thickness of two pennies. The torch was replaced in 1986 because the original was corroded. The poem on the base, "The New Colossus" by Emma Lazarus, was added in 1903. It reads: "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free."
