Apple Betty Day

An apple Betty is a baked apple dessert with a crumb topping. It is simpler than a pie, easier than a cobbler, and older than either. The recipe dates to colonial America. The apples are sliced, the topping is butter and brown sugar and oats, and the whole thing is baked until it bubbles. It is served with ice cream, which melts into the crumb topping and creates a sauce that is better than any fancy dessert in any restaurant.
