Helen Keller Day

Helen Keller was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama, on June 27, 1880. She lost her sight and hearing at 19 months. With the help of Anne Sullivan, she learned to communicate, graduated from Radcliffe, and became one of the most famous advocates for disability rights in the world. Her home in Tuscumbia, Ivy Green, is now a museum. Every summer, they perform "The Miracle Worker" on the grounds. The play ends with the water pump scene, where Keller first connects the word "water" to the sensation. If this scene does not move you, check your pulse.
