Regional/Cultural Day
From September 15 to October 15, the United States recognizes the contributions of Hispanic Americans. The date was chosen because September 15 is the independence day of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico's independence day is September 16th. In Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Houston, and San Antonio, this month is not a celebration. It is a reminder that Hispanic heritage is American heritage.
