Den Chornobylskoi Katastrofy
Commemorates the 1986 nuclear disaster, the worst in history. In Kyiv, a candlelight vigil is held at the Chornobyl Museum, and bells ring at 1:23 AM, the exact time of the explosion. The evacuated zone around the plant has become an accidental wildlife reserve, and the stories of the liquidators who contained the disaster are told in every Ukrainian school.
