Apr Fool's Day

The day of pranks is celebrated in Liberia with the same enthusiasm as everywhere else, and the pranks range from the harmless to the elaborate. The Liberian English phrase for the day is "April Fool day," and the tradition is to play tricks on friends and family before noon. The radio stations broadcast fake news, the newspapers publish fake stories, and the social media is a minefield of misinformation. The Liberian sense of humor is sharp, and the pranks are creative. The most common prank is telling someone their car has been towed or their phone is ringing when it is not.

Apr Fool's : The Rolex

The rolex is the national street food of Uganda, and it is not the watch. The rolex is a chapati (flatbread) wrapped around a fried egg with onions, tomatoes, and cabbage. The name "rolex" comes from "rolled eggs" : and the AHA! moment is that the rolex was invented by Ugandan university students who needed a cheap, filling meal. It costs about 2,000 Ugandan shillings (about 50 cents). AHA! moment: In 2021, a Ugandan chef named Ray Muten attempted to make the world's largest rolex : it was 2 meters long and fed 500 people. The Guinness Book of World Records has a category for the longest rolex. The record is 204.4 meters, set in Kampala in 2018. Yes, there is an official world record for the longest egg chapati wrap.
