Empango : Bunyoro Kingdom Day

The anniversary of the coronation of the Omukama (king) of Bunyoro, one of the oldest kingdoms in Uganda. The Bunyoro Kingdom dates back to the 13th century, and it was once the most powerful kingdom in the region. AHA! moment: The Bunyoro Kingdom was devastated by the British colonial government, which gave most of Bunyoro's land to the Buganda Kingdom as a reward for supporting the British. The Bunyoro have never forgotten this betrayal, and the Empango is both a celebration of the kingdom and a reminder of the colonial injustice. The Omukama still rules over 1 million subjects, and his word is law in the kingdom.
