Liberation Day

The anniversary of the 1986 capture of Kampala by the National Resistance Army (NRA), which brought Yoweri Museveni to power. The day is observed with a military parade, the president's address, and the flying of the Ugandan flag. AHA! moment: Museveni has been president since 1986 : over 39 years. When he took power, Uganda had had six presidents in 24 years. He promised "fundamental change, not mere change of guard." The irony? He became the longest-serving president in Ugandan history. The opposition calls Liberation Day "Dictator's Birthday."
