1956: Tunisia shook off 75 years of French colonial rule. Habib Bourguiba, the man who would become president, negotiated independence while wearing a suit that said "I am the future." The military parade down Avenue Habib Bourguiba is matched only by the argument about whether Bourguiba was a hero or a dictator. Both things can be true.
