Grand Marche Gbe
The Grand Marche of Lomé is the commercial heart of the city, a vast, chaotic, magnificent marketplace where you can buy everything from imported electronics to handwoven cloth to freshly slaughtered goat. The Nana Benz, the legendary market women who built trading empires from market stalls, once controlled the textile trade across West Africa from this very market. Their daughters and granddaughters still run stalls here, and the prices are still set through negotiation that is part art, part sport, and entirely serious.
