Kabye Initiation Gbe
In the northern Kara region, the Kabye people practice one of West Africa's most intense initiation rituals. Young men undergo weeks of physical testing, scarification, and teaching by elders who transmit the community's knowledge through proverbs, songs, and direct experience. The initiation marks the passage from boyhood to manhood, and the scars on the chest and back are worn with pride for life. Every Kabye man carries these marks as a visible record of what he endured and what he became.
