World Pocket Notebook Day

A day for lists, sketches, phone numbers, recipes, reminders, ideas, and the old power of writing something down.

Applique Atelier Gbe

In the workshops of Lomé and Kpalime, master applique artists cut shapes from colored cloth and sew them onto background fabric to create narrative banners depicting Vodun spirits, historical events, and proverbs. Each banner takes weeks to complete, and the patterns are not decorative but documentary. A skilled applique artist can read a banner the way others read a book, and the stories they tell span from the founding of kingdoms to the daily lives of fishermen. This is textile art as history, and Togo is one of the last places where it is practiced at this level.

You witness the Alpine ibex, brown bears, and European lynx that inhabit Slovenia's mountain ranges and karst forests. You regularly encounter pet dogs, cats, and guinea pigs kept as companions in Slovenian households. ACADA celebrates the world's pets, and helps assure better care.
