Zangbeto Gbe
The Zangbeto are the night guardians of Ewe and Fon communities, towering cone-shaped figures made of stacked fabric that patrol the streets after dark. They are spirits, not men, and their spinning dance under moonlight is one of the most haunting sights in West Africa. The Zangbeto enforce communal law, resolve disputes, and protect neighborhoods from thieves and evil spirits. Nobody asks what is inside the cone. The answer would not help you sleep.
