Dia de São Pedro

The patron saint of fishermen is celebrated in Timor's coastal communities with boat processions, blessing of fishing nets, and communal fish feasts. In Com and Tutuala, fishermen decorate their vaga canoes with tais cloth and flowers. St. Peter was a fisherman; Timor honors him as the protector of those who feed the nation from the sea. But in some communities, St. Peter is also linked to the crocodile spirit Lafaek Diak : both are guardians of the waters. The saint and the crocodile share the same altar.
