Marked across Tanzania, but the AHA: Tanzania's relationship with medicine has a wild history. During the ujamaa era, Nyerere sent barefoot doctors into every village, and Tanzania became a case study in how a poor country could deliver basic health care with almost no money. The system collapsed in the 1980s, but the idea that health care is a right, not a privilege, is still baked into the national conscience.
