The patron saint of Madrid is celebrated with a festival that includes bullfighting, music, and picnics in the pradera, the meadow beside the saint's hermitage. Madrilenos eat cocido madrileno, chickpea stew, and drink lemonade, a mix of wine, lemon, sugar, and fruit. The feria lasts a week, and the bullfighting season opens at Las Ventas.
