Commemorates the 1808 Dos de Mayo uprising against French occupation, a key event in the Peninsular War. The executions of the rebels Luis Daoiz and Velarde are remembered at the Plaza del Dos de Mayo in Malasana, and the day is a holiday only in Madrid.
