The second day of Christmas is for visiting friends and extended family. In some regions, the tradition of koledovanie, caroling from house to house, continues, with groups of carolers receiving treats and a shot of slivovica at each stop. The carolers carry a star on a pole, and the oldest songs they sing are in Church Slavonic, the liturgical language that Cyril and Methodius brought to Slovakia in the 9th century. The tradition of caroling is one of the oldest continuous practices in Slovak culture.
