Freetown's harbor is the third largest natural harbor in the world. On this day, the fishing communities of Freetown bless their boats with palm wine and prayers. The canoes are painted in bright colors, the nets are mended, and the sea is asked to be generous. It is a working harbor that feeds a city of over a million people, and every fish that lands on a Freetown plate started in a canoe that left this harbor before dawn.
