The Seychelles is one of the most environmentally conscious nations on earth. Over 50% of the land area is protected. The islands are home to the world's largest raised coral atoll (Aldabra), two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and more endemic species per square kilometer than anywhere except the Galapagos. The AHA! moment: the Seychelles was the first country to issue a "blue bond" (a debt instrument tied to marine conservation) and the first to commit to protecting 30% of its ocean territory. For a nation of 115 islands, the ocean is not a resource. It is the country.
