Fete du Boubou
Celebrates the boubou, the flowing robe that is the most formal garment in Senegalese culture. The boubou, also known as the grand boubou, is a three-piece outfit consisting of a tunic, a pair of trousers, and an over-robe. It is worn by both men and women, and the quality of the embroidery is a mark of social status. The finest boubous are made of damask or silk and feature intricate embroidery that can take months to complete. The festival in Dakar showcases the work of Senegal's finest tailors and embroiderers.
