The day the RPF liberated Kigali and ended the genocide in 1994. Ceremonies, speeches, and the national anthem played on every radio. The AHA: Liberation Day on July 4 is a coincidence with American Independence Day, and visiting Americans in Kigali always do a double-take when they see the fireworks. But the fireworks here are not celebrating the same thing.
