In the Land of a Thousand Hills, water is both everywhere and hard to reach. This day hits home because Rwandan women and girls still walk an average of 3.5 kilometers to fetch water in rural areas. The government uses this day to showcase its water infrastructure projects, and the AHA: Rwanda has one of the most ambitious clean water access programs in East Africa, and they track progress village by village.
