Umwungeri w'Ubumwe

February kicks off Rwanda's national unity campaigns. Schools hold debates, neighborhoods host peace talks, and the government runs radio spots about Ndi Umunyarwanda ("I am Rwandan") : the identity that replaced the ethnic labels that were weaponized in 1994. The AHA moment: Rwanda is one of the only countries that legally abolished ethnic identity categories. You won't find "Hutu" or "Tutsi" on any official document.
