Ziua Nationala

The anniversary of the 1918 unification of Transylvania with Romania. The day is observed with a military parade, the president's address, and the flying of the Romanian flag (blue, yellow, and red). The day is both celebration and reflection, because the unification was one of the most important events in Romanian history, and it created the modern Romanian state. In Alba Iulia, where the unification was proclaimed, the ceremony includes a reenactment of the 1918 assembly, and the tradition is to lay wreaths at the statue of King Ferdinand and Queen Marie. The Great Union of 1918 brought together Transylvania, Bessarabia, and Bukovina with the Old Kingdom, and the Romanian nation was finally whole.
