Luna lui Faurar
February in Romanian folk tradition is the month of the blacksmith, when the forge burns hot and the iron is shaped. The name comes from the Romanian word for the month, "februarie," linked to "faur" (blacksmith). Folk beliefs hold that the weather in February determines the quality of the harvest: if the blacksmith's fire burns bright, the year will be plentiful. In rural communities, this is the time when blacksmiths repair tools and plows in preparation for spring, and the sound of hammering on the anvil echoes through the valleys.
