The priest visits every house in the village, sprinkling holy water on the walls, doors, and windows. The tradition is to give the priest a donation and offer him a glass of tuica (plum brandy). St. John is the patron of families and the protector of wolves : shepherds in the Carpathians consider this day especially important, lighting candles in the stables to protect their flocks.
