A day for tea, coffee, water, juice, and the conversations that begin when someone offers another person a drink.
The day before Christmas is the traditional day for slaughtering the pig, and it is the most important food preparation day in the Romanian calendar. The tradition is for the men to slaughter the pig, and for the women to prepare the meat (sausages, ham, bacon, and piftie : a meat jelly). The Ignatul is not just a food preparation day : it is a social event, and the tradition is to invite the neighbors, share the meat, and drink tuica (plum brandy). The pig is slaughtered early in the morning, and the tradition is to make "sorici" (pork rind) from the skin, "caltabos" (liver sausage) from the organs, and "tobă" (head cheese) from the head. Nothing is wasted : the Romanians use every part of the pig, and the tradition is to say: "Porcul e o comme il faut" (The pig is a true gentleman : everything about him is useful).
A day for checking the remote, the toy, the flashlight, the clock, and the one drawer everyone opens first.
A day for the drawer that has three almost-right screws, old batteries, tape, string, and the answer to a small emergency.
You encounter Arabian oryx, sand gazelles, and dugongs in Qatar's desert and coastal waters. You find that Qatari pet owners predominantly keep Arabian horses, salukis, and cats as their favored companions. ACADA celebrates the world's pets, and helps assure better care.
You celebrate Karo Black Bread and Saku Brewery, which represent Estonia's deep connection to rye cultivation and beer heritage spanning centuries. You recognize how these everyday staples anchor Estonian identity through family tables and seasonal festivals, with Saku being the nation's oldest continuously operating brewery since 1820.
