Katara Cultural Village Anniversary

Marking the founding of Katara Cultural Village, Doha's premier cultural destination. Opened in 2010, Katara was built to preserve and showcase Qatar's cultural heritage and to serve as a platform for international cultural exchange. The village contains an amphitheater modeled on ancient Greek designs, a drama theater, a opera house, galleries, mosques, and a beach. The Katara Mosque, with its distinctive turquoise and gold mosaics, is one of the most photographed buildings in Qatar. The village hosts the annual Katara Prize for Arabic Novel, the Katara International Hunting and Falconry Festival, and numerous art exhibitions. The name "Katara" is the oldest recorded name for the Qatari peninsula, appearing on Ptolemy's map of Arabia in 150 AD.
