The day honoring mothers, and the celebration includes family gatherings, the giving of flowers, and the traditional meal of bigos, pierogi (dumplings), and makowiec (poppy seed cake). The mother is the most important person in the Polish family, and the day is both celebration and acknowledgment. Schools organize events where children recite poems and sing songs dedicated to their mothers.
