Regional/Cultural Day

Swieto Konstytucji 3 Maja

The anniversary of the 1791 Constitution of May 3rd, which was the first written constitution in Europe (and the second in the world, after the United States). The day is observed with ceremonies, and the reminder that the Constitution of May 3rd was a progressive document that established a constitutional monarchy, separated the powers of government, and protected the rights of citizens. The day is both celebration and reflection, because the Constitution was annulled by the Russian invasion of 1792, and Poland lost its independence for 123 years.
