Pagsapula ng Ber
The beginning of the Christmas season in the Philippines, the longest in the world. When the calendar hits September 1, the countdown to Christmas begins. Radio stations start playing Christmas carols, malls put up their decorations, and the word "Ber" (the suffix of September through December) becomes the signal that the most wonderful time of the year has arrived. The Philippines is one of only two predominantly Catholic countries in Asia (the other is East Timor), and the Christmas season runs from September to January, a full four months. The parol (star-shaped lantern) begins to appear in windows and doorways.
