Pahiyas Festival

Held in Lucban, Quezon, the Pahiyas Festival is a harvest celebration in honor of San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers. Houses are decorated with kiping (colorful rice wafers shaped like leaves and arranged into chandeliers, flowers, and elaborate murals). The kiping is made from rice flour, water, and food coloring, pressed onto carved leaf molds, and steamed. Other decorations include fruits, vegetables, and handicrafts. After the festival, the kiping is fried or toasted and eaten. The festival has been celebrated since the 16th century and attracts over 100,000 visitors.
