Araw ni Bonifacio

The birthday of Andres Bonifacio, the founder of the Katipunan, the secret society that launched the Philippine Revolution against Spain in 1896. Bonifacio was a warehouse worker from Tondo, not a wealthy landowner like Aguinaldo. He is called the "Supremo" and is revered as the leader of the common people. The day is observed with ceremonies and the reminder that Bonifacio was executed by his own men in 1897, and his legacy is still debated. The Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan is the traditional site of the ceremony.
