Santacruzan
The highlight of the Flores de Mayo, held on the last day of May. The procession reenacts the search of Queen Helena (Reyna Elena) for the Holy Cross in Jerusalem. Young women in evening gowns represent biblical queens, saints, and virtues, and walk under decorated arches. The Reyna Elena carries a small cross and is accompanied by a boy representing Constantine. The procession is preceded by beautiful women representing titles like Reyna de las Flores (Queen of Flowers) and Reyna Emperatriz (Queen Empress). The Santacruzan is part religious devotion, part beauty pageant, and part social event.
