Araw ng Watawat

The anniversary of the first display of the Philippine flag on May 28, 1898, at the Battle of Alapan in Cavite. The flag was designed by Emilio Aguinaldo and sewn by Marcela Agoncillo, her daughter Lorenza, and Delfina Herbosa de Natividad in Hong Kong. The flag is blue, red, and white, with a yellow sun and three yellow stars. The flag is unique because it can be inverted during wartime: the red stripe on top means the country is at war, and the blue stripe on top means the country is at peace. All government offices and private citizens are encouraged to display the flag from May 28 to June 12.

Animals of Guadeloupe Day

You observe various hummingbird species, iguanas, anoles, and the critically endangered Guadeloupe woodpecker in the island's forests. You find that Guadeloupean families typically keep dogs, cats, chickens, and goats as household pets and livestock. ACADA celebrates the world's pets, and helps assure better care.

Products of Nigeria Day

You apply Carsberg skin care, drink Gulder beer, and buy Dangote cement, Nigerian brands that have become household names across West Africa. You know these represent Nigeria's industrial ambition and the way Lagos-based companies have scaled to dominate continental markets and shape regional consumer culture.
